New 2017 Dodge Durango at Thompson Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Baltimore for Baltimore, MD
The 2017 Dodge Durango models all have 3rd-row seat options, fast acceleration times, great towing capacity, and low-range gearing on the 4-WD choice. Owners can put in a third seat into the back row as another choice (dependent on model) making seating for seven! The R/T model has roof rails that are painted black and new for 2017. The SXT trim allows options for second-row seating, another new feature in 2017. The entire GT model is new for 2017 and shows off a little with its cool monochromatic exterior. The GT replaces a prior trim from last year and adds to a streamlined list of features from it. Plus, in Durango models that opt for the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, there is a motion-activated rearview camera with it, that enables viewing the trailer when it is in motion! The Citadel model brings the luxury items, with an optional Anodized Platinum package that lays out two-tone leather upholstery with silver stitching accents.
Under the Durango's Hood
The Durango is rear-wheel drive and typically corrals the strength of an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, but drivers can select an all-wheel drive set-up as a choice. There is an important election of engines here, either a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with Fuel Saver Technology that has 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, or a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 sees 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6-liter engine can tow 6,200-lbs and can manage 26 miles per gallon on the highway, 19 mpg city and 21 mpg combined. The 'Trailer-tow Group IV' helps with a 4- and 7-pin wiring harness, a 220-amp alternator (if 5.7L V-8), full-size spare tire, rear load-leveling shocks, a Class IV hitch receiver, and a heavy-duty engine oil cooler (if 5.7L V-8). The 5.7-liter has a towing capacity of 7,400-lbs. The EPA tested an AWD 2017 Dodge Durango and said it rated at 25 miles per gallon highway, 18 mpg city and 21 mpg combined.
Design of Dodge Durango
Packages abound on the 2017 Durango, and drivers can select either the Brass Monkey or Blacktop "appearance" packages for the R/T and GT models! There are 4 Durango models: the Citadel, SXT, R/T, and the GT. There are 3 rows usually, but captain's chairs can be put in place of the standard second-row bench seat. The Durango clears about 85 cubic feet of cargo space and can seat five to seven passengers, depending mainly on seating selections. The Citadel trim has xenon headlights (brighter than halogen ones) and a chrome trim. The GT model looks amazing with its 20-inch wheels, and there is a Blu-ray video entertainment system available. The Blu-ray video entertainment system put in dual 9-inch screens that play high-resolution DVDs and are compatible with video games that riders plug in. There are 18-inch alloy wheels on the SXT model, which then adds more with a 5-inch touchscreen, keyless ignition/entry, tri-zone climate control, a 6-speaker audio system, heated mirrors, a rear suspension that self-levels, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and several other super items of interest to find.
Is all-wheel drive available in the 2017 Dodge Durango?
Yes! The Durango has dual available AWD systems - one for the HEMI V-8 and another one for Pentastar V-6 engine models - significantly enhancing the vehicle's traction and handling, and working well with its inherent 50/50 weight distribution!

In testing by the IIHS, the 2017 Dodge Durango saw the highest score of 'Good' in head restraint, side-impact, roof strength, moderate-overlap front-impact tests. The UConnect 8.4-inch touchscreen interface is an option, and it does have a ton of additional emergency assistance features packed within it. Standard on any 2017 Durango is a driver's knee airbag, Hill-start Assist, Keyless Enter 'n Go, Rain Brake Support, front-side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. Continuing along those lines, there are anti-lock disc brakes, Brake Assist, electronic roll mitigation (ERM), an Electronic Stability Control (which has a vehicle stability management system), all-speed traction control, and a 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS). Acquiring the SXT trim makes trailer-hook alignment much easier with rear parking sensors and rearview camera, as well as tackles reversing into small parking spots. In U.S. Government crash testing, the 2017 Dodge Durango got a total five stars rating for side-impact safety.
